Your first riding lesson with Sandy Lucas

Starting from scratch or returning to riding? Find out how to arrange your lesson, what to bring and how the horse and payment arrangements work.

You can start with no riding experience

You do not need to own a horse or have ridden before to enquire about a lesson with Sandy Lucas at Ridgeview Farm. Complete beginners are welcome, as are riders returning after a break or working towards a particular goal.

Ridgeview is in Robertson, in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Sandy will start with your experience, confidence and what you would like to learn, then discuss a lesson to suit you.

Arrange your lesson directly with Sandy

When you get in touch, tell Sandy whether this is your first time riding, whether you are bringing a horse and your preferred dates. For a child, include their age so she can confirm suitable arrangements.

Sandy is an EA Level 1 General Coach, EA Level 2 Eventing Coach and EA Level 2 Eventing Course Designer. You can read more about lessons with Sandy Lucas or contact her on 0409 901 235 or sandylucas67@gmail.com.

Bring your own horse or arrange one with Sandy

If you have your own horse, let Sandy know about your riding together and what you would like to work on. If you need a horse, arrange to use one of Sandy Lucas’s horses when you book.

Any supplied horse is provided by Sandy directly. Ridgeview provides the facilities and does not supply horses. Confirm the horse arrangement and any associated charges with Sandy before your visit.

Ask what to wear and bring

If you are starting from scratch, say so. Sandy can help arrange the horse and riding equipment you need and explain suitable clothing and footwear. Check what will be provided and what you should bring before buying equipment for your first lesson.

Talk through any questions or nerves when you book. Your starting point helps Sandy plan an introduction at a pace that suits you.

Understand the two separate fees

Sandy’s instruction fee is paid directly to Sandy. Confirm that fee and the arrangements for using one of her horses with her.

Ridgeview’s facility fee is $25 per rider, per lesson visit, paid through this website. It covers property use for the lesson you have arranged. Paying the facility fee does not book a lesson or reserve a time with Sandy.

Before you travel to the farm

  1. Confirm your lesson and horse arrangements with Sandy.
  2. Complete the rider waiver. A parent or legal guardian must complete and sign for a rider under 18.
  3. Pay the facility fee for your lesson date. Returning riders with a waiver already on file can use their name and the email used to sign.
  4. Check with Sandy before travelling if weather or ground conditions may affect your lesson.

You will find Ridgeview at 170 Wallaby Hill Road, Robertson, NSW. Our contact page has directions. Please arrange your lesson before visiting.
